Push for PORTER

R
izquierdaLone Pusher at St. Mary'sderecha

Furlong, Durack

Stuffed a towel in the banjo - to quieten the sound.
"Where are you off to?" "I'm heading downtown!
The Pushers are playing the Protestant Church -
If you don't hurry up you'll be left in the lurch!"

"Go ahead on your own so, I'm watching the telly."
"Will you ramble down after?" "No! Not on your nelly!
I'll stay by the stove with my Nicholas Mosse cup -
Bring your keys to get back in - I won't be up!"

So out on me own in the cold and the dark
and I'm wondering now where on earth will I park?
Sure I needn't have worried - I found me a space
And the parking was free straight across from the place!

I hoisted me banjo and put on me coat
I glanced at the castle which hasn't a moat
Crossed over the road till I came to the gate
Not a Pusher in sight - had I come here too late?

No light from the windows, no tune to be heard
I checked out the gate, it was bolted and barred
"St Mary's" they said on the note that went round
There's another of those on the west side of town

No panic, says I as I reached for me phone
I'll give Jonny a shout - but no answering tone
Joe Buckley will know but the phone just rang out
Then into my head came a lingering doubt.

I'll check Gerry Quinn's note to see just in case
And there was the answer in front of my face
"St Mary's C of I" - just as I had hoped
On Monday the 12th - not the 5th - ya Big Dope!
