Push for PORTER

On Friday you'll find him at the Palais De Danse
In search of excitement, intrigue and romance
If Roslyn Maguire gives him half a chance
He'll show her that he's Fred Astaire

He's taken lessons at the best school around
They say he's a natural, too good for this town
The rest of the week he's a pen-pushing clown
But on Friday he'll be Fred Astaire

Now he's seen all the pictures, he has studied his style
The elegant shuffle, the lopsided smile
If Roslyn Maguire gets within half a mile
He'll show her that he's Fred Astaire

In this part of the country, a man is a man
He drinks himself senseless and still somehow stands
By Tinsel town standards he's not worth a damn
But here he can be Fred Astaire

Come Friday you'll find him dressed up to the nines
His hair will be combed and his shoes will be shined
If Roslyn Maguire can spare him the time
He'll show her that he's Fred Astaire

Out on the dance floor with arms round her waist
They'll be a picture of charm and of grace
The rest of the week he's just taking up space
But on Friday he'll be Fred Astaire
On Friday he'll be Fred Astaire
