JUMELAGE
So, Maynooth got twinned up with Canet-en-Roussillon on Saturday, 1st October 2011.
The twinning ceremony took place at 4.00 p.m. in Renehan Hall, St. Patrick's College, Maynooth.
The Mayor of Kildare, Michael Nolan signed the Charter on behalf of Maynooth while Ms. Bernard Dupont, Maire Canet-en-Roussillon signed for the French party.
That night the delegates were entertained in Carton House. Push for Porter got to play some traditional tunes and were presented with our very own commemorative pennant . Most of the group were absent due to the annual pilgrimage to Maam Cross, but Liam Roe fiddled manfully, Paddy Furlong drove the banjo and Jonathon Meade sang and accompanied on his guitar. Holly Meade sang "Táimse i mo Chodladh" and followed with a belting version of "Wayfaring Stranger". Danny Carty sang his "Carlingford" composition for the French and presented each of them with a CD. We finished off with "The Curragh of Kildare" and everybody joined in.
